Adult Classes

Schedule

10th Planet Detroit offers a variety of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and wrestling classes 6 days a week, as well as an open mat session on Sundays.  Check out class descriptions below for more information on what to expect in each of our classes.

Jiu Jitsu Fundamentals

Our beginner Jiu Jitsu class lays the foundation for all 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu training. New students will learn the building blocks of jiu jitsu and grappling, while working with more advanced students who are in class to keep their foundation solid.

No prior experience is required to take the Beginner class, and no matter your fitness level, grappling will provide an intense, physically demanding workout that is sure to challenge mind and body.

10th Planet Jiu Jitsu is designed specifically for MMA, so whether training to stay fit or conditioning to compete, the Beginner class is the place to start your training.

TEAM TRAINING

Classes focus more on the competitive, athletic side of jiu jitsu, with an emphasis on live and situational drilling, and unique techniques designed specifically for MMA. Whether you’re rolling for fun or training for a match, this is the class that will give you the competitive edge you’re looking for.

Wrestling

Every Jiu Jitsu match starts standing. Learn how to effectively take down your opponents using freestyle & Greco-Roman wrestling, Judo and Sambo. Erik Paulson’s Combat Submission Wrestling (CSW) is a battle tested, combat ready method based on personal experience from one of MMA’s pioneers.

Combat Submission Wrestling (CSW) provides skills essential for any jiu jitsu fighter seeking an edge in competition, or simply looking to improve their rolling. While the wrestling class is recommended to jiu jitsu fighters, no previous experience is necessary to take the class.

Boxing

Learn how to strike on your feet with our Boxing classes. Classes will focus on developing the foundational skills of boxing including footwork, punching mechanics, slipping, bobbing and weaving and counter punching. Whether you want to compete in MMA or learn striking for self-defense, or just looking for a killer workout, our Boxing classes will help you reach your goals.

F.A.Q.

Here are some questions we are often asked by prospective students looking to being their Jiu Jitsu journey.

NO. Our Fundamentals Class is beginner friendly for people at any level of physical fitness. Over time with continuous training, you will find yourself reaching new levels of fitness. Many people who “wait to get in shape” before starting never end up starting at all.

NO. Don’t worry, you won’t be “fighting” anyone when you come to your free trial. Jiu Jitsu is a unique martial art in its approach to training with a fully resisting opponent. However, we make sure to introduce “live training” to our beginners slowly over a period of a 1-3 weeks depending on each students’ readiness to experience this type of training. Student safety is our #1 priority.

For your free trial class please wear comfortable workout clothes (shorts and a t-shirt) and bring a water bottle. That’s it!

That’s ok! Many people have preconceived notions about what martial arts training is like. Training in Jiu Jitsu is a rigorous endeavor that involves heavy physical contact. We make sure to train our students in a safe environment that is beginner friendly. However, close physical contact may be too uncomfortable for some people, and that’s ok! There are no obligations to sign up and we will welcome you back with open arms if you decide that you are ready to begin at a later date.

Don’t worry about that! The only way to get there is to start training. Every student is different and will progress through the belt ranks at different speeds. On average, it takes 10-15 years to earn a black belt in Jiu Jitsu, however there have been incredibly dedicated students who have achieved this in 4-6 years.
