Muay Thai, also known as Thai Boxing, is a traditional martial art from Thailand that focuses on striking techniques. It is often referred to as the “Art of Eight Limbs” because it utilizes punches, kicks, elbows, and knee strikes, allowing fighters to engage with a wide variety of attacks. Muay Thai is known for its powerful and efficient strikes, clinching techniques, and its emphasis on conditioning and toughness. Practiced both as a competitive sport and for self-defense, Muay Thai has gained international recognition and is an integral part of training for Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) competition.

10th Planet Livonia’s Muay Thai coaches are certified under the World Thai Boxing Association (WTBA). Founded in 1968 by Ajarn Surachai “Chai” Sirisute, the WTBA became one of the first organizations to introduce formal Muay Thai training to Western countries, promoting the art in North America and Europe. Through seminars, competitions, and partnerships with other martial arts schools, Ajarn Chai and the WTBA played a key role in Muay Thai’s global rise in popularity, ensuring that it was practiced with authenticity and respect for its Thai origins. Today, the WTBA remains a major force in Muay Thai instruction, certifying trainers and fostering a strong international community of practitioners.
